Tasmanian Oak Floors

Tasmanian Oak flooring brings a beautiful warmth and airiness to interior areas by means of the lighter look wood which varies in natural colour from straw to reddish brown, with added warm tones ranging from cream to pink.

As a dense wood with an even grain, Tasmanian Oak timber is like all oak wood and never feels perfectly smooth to the touch. It is, however, very easy to work with so lends itself to sawing, planing and sanding resulting in excellent finishes.

Tasmanian Oak wood is of medium hardness, though it is resilient enough to be ideal for flooring applications and very stable. This versatile medium can be used for many applications, including structural, cladding and flooring. A dense wood, it is able to handle moderately heavy foot traffic, so a Tasmanian Oak floor is resistant to damage through dents or scratches. Since it is easily stained, it makes for good finishes to fit with surroundings or match other woods. Tasmanian Oak also takes glue well for making joins and laminations.

The Tasmanian Oak is named for its area of origin - Tasmania, and is widely available, since it is easy to grow, though it is also sourced from similar climate regions in Victoria and South-East New South Wales. The wood is in fact produced by any one of three Eucalyptus variations: Eucalyptus Regnans, Eucalyptus Obliqua and Eucalyptus Delegatensis.
