Spotted Gum

This beautiful, native species is available from Aspire Floors in either solid or engineered spotted gum flooring. The Australian hardwood tree, Corymbia Maculata (syn. Eucalyptus Maculata), is plantation grown in Australia, making it an environmentally friendly option. Together with Blackbutt, this local wood species is a popular choice for Australian floors, both in solid hardwood floorboards and engineered flooring. Their strength and beauty make them ideal for this application, with the warmth and feel of real, indigenous wood.

The spotted gum tree can grow to 45m high, straight and slender trunks. Its smooth bark is colourful, ranging from pink and white to bluish grey and sheds in patches, hence its 'spotted' appearance and name. Its dense wood is resistant to shrinking and a low tannin content means it doesn't bleed at all, unlike some of the other Australian timbers.

Spotted Gum Flooring

Spotted gum flooring has a greater variation than blackbutt, ranging from pale brown to a dark reddish, or chocolatey, brown, grain is moderately coarse and often wavy. Coupled with the fact that the wood is dense and durable, this makes spotted gum a perfect choice for both engineered and solid floorboards. Aspire Floors construct an engineered floorboard for spotted gum flooring in the same way we make our engineered oak boards, ie. a 3mm surface of the actual spotted gum hardwood on a stabilised wooden base of 11mm to 12mm thickness. As a possible alternative to oak, with a nod to local materials, spotted gum flooring shows off the high quality Australian hardwood timber to its best advantage.
